Welcome to Hahn
For many years, John and Charlotte Weaver and their family lived on this 280-acre homestead in an 1897 farmhouse. They remodeled it in 1949 and built the adjacent barn, now a 9,000 sqf. event center, in 1950.
The Weaver’s called this house Bedside Manner (see the north entry inlay), a play on words reflecting Mr. Weaver’s profession as a doctor who made house calls and was known as Gentle John.
The farm backed up to the famous Texas-to-Kansas Chisholm Trail established by Black Beaver, a Lenape guide and rancher, and his friend Jesse Chisholm, a Cherokee merchant.
In 2007, the nearby shopping center was developed. For many years prior, you could drive by and see Mrs. Weaver’s donkeys in the field around the barn. In honor of Mrs. Weaver’s herd, Hahn commissioned a series of original pastel pieces that hang downstairs from San Antonio artist Dana Parish.
The three wood-framed pieces echo the “barn quilting” movement inspired by Donna Sue Groves of Manchester, Ohio. Our Texas Flags in the stairwell are original pieces created for Hahn by Christopher Mayes, and Swirl, the rolled paper piece upstairs was created by artist Jen Hassin in honor of our 10th anniversary of ownership.
Feel free to explore the space. Read the Yes Parking signs and if the spirit moves you, help us invent more smart-aliky ones. Feel free to pitch a game of horseshoes or washers in the garden area and take a break upstairs on the summer porch where you can imagine 1897 again by gazing into the live oak trees as they celebrate their demisemiseptcentennials (~175 years old).
